The league was formed in 1953 as a way for AT&T employees and family members to socialize and build friendships with one another in a non-work environment. San Antonio Telecommunications Employee Golf Association thrived for many years until 2007 when AT&T moved their headquarters and many employees to Dallas. Although a number of devoted members tried to keep the League going, changes were needed in order to survive. Having spent years developing a great organization it seemed a shame to let it go away. The Board of Directors made a major change to membership qualification to allow any golfer in the South Texas area to join. Since those dark days of record low membership, SATEGA GOLF (as it is now called) has grown to well over 120 members!
